Judy Andrekson has been in love with words and writing since she was a child growing up in Nova Scotia. When she was twenty, she interrupted her university education in Journalism at Dalhousie University to move to Alberta, where she could immerse herself in her second passion, horses. Her dream of becoming a writer was never far from the surface, however. She pursued this dream, as many writers do, in self-conscious isolation, but her skills were steadily developing as she attended many courses on the writing life, editing, and other writing related subjects. She devoured books on the subject, and, most importantly, she continued to practice her skills in the publishing arena, learning much of her trade the 'hard knocks' way. In the past decade, Judy has turned her attention toward a serious career in writing. Her career quickly expanded into speaking engagements and workshop presentations. She was approached by other budding writers for advice on their works-in-progress, or their works-in-mind. She very soon discovered the immense value of working with other writers, finding that she was learning as much as they were each time she critiqued a work or helped someone realize their writing goals. This has become one of Judy's favorite parts of her career and she brings experience, intuition, nurturing, enthusiasm, passion, and excitement to every project she takes on.
Judy also works as a Special Needs Educational Assistant for Elk Island Public Schools, and is a mother, an animal lover, a reader, music lover, gardener, hiker, and nature nut. She lives in Sherwood Park, AB with her daughter, Kate, and her best puppy-friends, Charlie and Zander.
